About PASS

The Pan African START Secretariat (PASS) is a component of the global change System for Analysis, Research and Training (START), and has an overall aim of coordinating all START activities within Africa. Broadly, the overall responsibility of PASS is promoting and coordinating global research, capacity building and net working in Africa.

Roles of PASS Office
The PASS office currently at Institute of Resource Assessment, University of Dar es Salaam facilitates the following activities

1.Convene periodic meetings of PACOM and its subcommittees, including making logistical arrangements, preparation of meetings agendas

2.Briefing and background papers for such meetings, make travel arrangements for committee members attending, disburse per diem, and provide administrative support for the travelers.

3.Provide information on START effort in Pan-African region by publishing and disseminating newsletters on START active ties in the region.

4.Maintaining a PASS /PACOM website and other means as appropriate.

5.Maintaining and organize a mailing list of global change researchers in Africa and other relevant data for committee opera tions.

6.Provide an annual reports and other information to be used on the START secretariat.

7.Seek to engage scientist, policy makers and others from across all parts of Africa in START and PACOM on global environ mental change activities.

8.keep liaison within regional network to facilitate implementation of agreed-upon regional development plans

9.Executive task and implement programs as may be agreed with PACOM resources and fund permitting
